Hi

I have a neon dwarf gourami which now has a VERY bloated stomach and is not eating.

My tank is 35 Gallons.

PH = 6.8
Temp 29 celcius
Amonia = 0
Nitrite = 0
Nitrate = 0

The tank is currently being treated for white spot which is on the clown loaches. The treatment was added 6 days ago and since then no fish have shown signs og stress other than cobalt dwarf gourami died suddenly yeasterday.

All other fish seem fine and the white spot on the loaches is going. 1 of the loaches totally clean of white spot now and the other 2 with 6 or less visibale spots.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks

Well it could be constipation to bacterial infections.
Can the fish maintain it's balance in the water.
Have you seen the fish go to the toilet.
What do you feed the fish.
Try some shelled peas for now.
Epson salt bath is good for bloating helps draw the fluids out.

Also just because the whitespot is going away on the fish doesn't mean it's gone for good. It actually goes off the fish, attaches to plants/wood/rocks and then reproduces and attaches to fish again. Peas are definetely a good idea although I thought you were supposed to de-shell them..... Is it possible he has DGV? (Dwarf Gourami Virus)

Hi all

yes he does look like a pinecone from above...........what does this tell me and what should I do?

And i also agree hat i haven't ssen him excrete recently so maybe constipated.....

Also what is dwarf gourami virus?

Thanks again

Ok, I think we're all pretty certain it's constpation now. Keep feeding him peas. Dwarf Gourami Virus is a disease that (obviously) affects Dwarf Gouramis. A good percentage of Dwarf Gouramis have it, probably around 25%. It can spread to other DG and infect them. It's pretty much lethal if you don't catch it fast enough.

If he looks like a pinecone he's pretty much a gonner. He has dropsy, if you are in the us you need maracyn. Give him epsom salt baths. He probably wont survive. Once the scales stick out its pretty much untreatable. Dropsy is a symptom usually of an internal bacterial infection. You might be lucky if its being caused by the constipation.

Yeah, Dropsy is bad. You might want to consider putting him out of his misery if it gets worse. Just make sure you read how to humanly euthanise a fish first.

My dwarf gourami just died last night, same symptoms, bloated, not eating, white stringy poo.

Its devistating he was beautiful.

I hope you can save yours..
