I was posting in the tropical fish forums when someone mentioned that maybe I should get a betta fish and a dwarf frog. I have a few questions about the frog.

1) Will the betta and the frog be okay together?
2) What kind of care does the dwarf frog need?
3) Do I need any particular kind of decorations?
4) How long does a dwarf frog live?
5) (stupid question) Does he need any land to live on or is he completely water bound?
6) Oh, and how much do they on average cost?

Thanks in advance!! I really appreciate it!

Edited to add last question

Hi ToWnPrEp, I have also been looking into getting some ADFs, the research I have done so far suggests:

1)dwarf frogs are generally considered to be good company for bettas
2)the frogs will need slightly alkaline water, around 6.8. They will also need to be fed sinking food. ADF's are meat eaters so something like frozen or live bloodworm would be ideal. Freeze dried foods can cause intestinal blockages and kill your frogs!
Be aware that if you do intend to keep a betta (or any other fish) with your frogs, the fish will gulp down all the food and your poor froggies will go hungry, you might need to try using a turkey baster to squirt some blood worm down to the frogs away from the fish. ADFs also have poor eyesight so they will need their food placed right in front of them to find it.
You might want bto consider ghost shrimp or corydoras catfish to clean up any waste food the frogs leave behind .
3)Plants and caves or plant pots for your frogs and betta to hide in are usually recommended
4)I'm not 100% sure but I have read of them living for 7 years and over, it all depends on how they are kept at the end of the day.
5)ADFs are completely aquatic frogs meaning they need to stay underwater all the time. They will dry out and die very quickly if they are out of water so you will need to make sure that there are no holes in your lid where they could get out. These frogs also breathe air from the surface of the water so you will need to ensure that you have the water line low wnough to allow them to do this, your betta will need the same.
6)Not knowing where you come from, I cant say how much they will cost where you are , but here in the uk I have seen them availible for around £1.45 each for a frog just under 1" in size. I assume the smaller and younger they are, the cheaper they will be.

Hope this all helps, anything I have got wrong please correct me!!! :)

Wow, that was very informative thanks for the reply. Ok, I think I've made my decision to go with a beta and a ADF. I'm in the USA but I can't imagine they'd be too expensive.

Also I dont mean to sound patronising, but just in case you don't know as you're new to keeping fish, your tank will need to be cycled before either the frogs or the betta can be added as they certainly wont enjoy, and may not survive the cycling process.

the frogs will need slightly alkaline water, around 6.8

not meaning to sound patronising either but 6.8 is actually very slightly acidic - above 7 is alkaline (well basic, alkaline actually refers to the compound not the measurment - sorry part of my job involved biochemistry...)

I have 2 minature frogs in my community tank and the pH is 7.4 - they seems to be ok. Most can cope with slightly "out" pH as long as its constant, its fluctuations that kill them. ie if you bring the pH down but it keeps going up everytime you do a water change that is unhealthy for them.

Thank you!! I am always happy to be corrected anyway, I'm still a beginner so I'm learning too

I'll give my bunny a hug from you later on!

I'm still a beginner too. I have two bunnies too - smudge who is a white dwarf lop with grey ear and a grey smudge on his nose, and Simba who is an english cross breed (mongrel!) hes grey brown but called simba as he has a ginger "mane" - well a little tufty bit... They're house bunnies and litter trained and very loony! Theres no way the could cope with being in a hutch, they do circuits of the living room at about 30mph!

Ive started giving nutmeg a litter tray in her hutch and she uses it a lot oif the time, if I put one in the conservatory where she runs do you think she would use that too rather than pooing on the floor? (saying that Charlie the labrador loves eating the poo  )

Got any pictures of your rabbits?

This has got a little off topic hasnt it ;)

Dwarf frog/dwarf lops.... hee hee

Thats what i did with mine. Just put the tray down and see what happens. They miss with the poo very occasionally but never "wee" on the floor.
