I recently posted in the beginners thread asking about the fish set up I was going to use once my tank finishes cycling. I decided on

6 neon (or possibly cardinal) tetras
1 dwarf gourami
Mabey a ghost shrimp or 2

I was thinking 2 ottos, but then someone said if I wanted a bottom dweller to get a dwarf cory. I havent been able to find much info on dwarf corys though.

My first question is what would you all recomend? I know ottos like larger groups, so that is one reason I am thinking of a dwarf cory. What can anyone tell me about these fish?

Could it be a Pygmy cory? You'd need at least 3, but I think you'd need the same in otos as tey like company too. Otos also need a planted tank.

Here's some Links:

HTH

Edit: Oh, and I think you'd be better with neons rather than cardinals in that tank as cardinals get quite a bit bigger.

Word of warning...whether you go with Cardinals or Neons, your tank should be well established for about 2-3 months before adding them. These neons are very sensitive to water parameters, so it's best to have the tank stablise first before adding them.

I think that I have heard somewhere ebfore about neons being sensative, but here is something else. Ive heard dwarf gouramis can be teritorrial and that is is better to have the neons in before the dwarf gourami because in that case the dwarf gourami should leave the neons alone.

Someone else also brought up planted tanks with ottos in my other thread, and since I am not planning on having them it does not seem that an otto is a good way to go.

Dwarf Gouramis are territorial only to themselves. They are fine with other fish. I think it's probably becuase of their smaller size. I have a Dwarf gourami in my 37 gallon tank, along with Cardinal tetras and 2 pl*cos. My Goldline Tiger (L-333) is the only one that's territorial. He doesn't like anyone in front of his cave. The regular gouramis are a big more aggressive.

One thing, some dwarf gouramis may have a bit more of an attitude. I bought a very spunky one at the store, but I thought it might be too aggressive in my tank. It actually did very well, but does nip at me at rare occassions, when I clean the tank.

If you get a fish that is a little aggressive than others, it is best to have it be the last fish that enters your tank. The proper way to acclimate them is the least aggresive first and then continue on until you acclimate the aggressive fish.

question about the pygmie cories, is there another "pygmy" type, I used to buy some from the local store here and he had the ones listed here and another type of pygmy cory. I liked the other type better they seemed to be hardy and lived longer. I dont know what they are called...I may do a google search...
