Hi all,
Just seen these guys in another thread and fallen in love lol done a bit of googling, See there one of the more peaceful cichilds and can work in a community tank,

Just wondering if anyone has got or kept these?

I have a large Angel & a couple of Keyhole cichilds. So hope they should fit in nicely, if i can ever find any,
any thoughts please
many thanx
Ben
:D

I have a pair at the moment, and in general they are very peaceful. Though they become a little bully-like, but no serious damage has been done yet. *touch wood*

Gorgeous fish, plenty of character. I love mine.

Got them, good little fish to keep, I find the females are the more aggressive but not on a high scale.

My male apisto has 'fish confusion', he's taken to the only female betta I have left.............go figure

Thanx guys, Are these guys quite hard to find? Or should i be able to pick up and pair quite easily! After googling images of them, Look like a lovely fish i would like in my tank

Thanx
Ben
:D

they can be hard to find, but it depends on what colour you want. Most pictures online are of "full double red" or "triple red" fish.

Lovin the red ones! How much does a pair or couple normally sell for ?

Thx again
Ben
:D

well my pair of "super reds" were £16 (plus postage and packaging) which seemed fair.

Just a warning though, I purchased my "super reds" from Kesgrave tropicals on ebay, and they aren't even remotely red, i'll be arguing for my money back in the near future

I have a pair and one of them is a bit of bully, but like above, he has not done any damage. I bought mine off an ebay seller who was local to me and got mine for £1.75 each, so prices can vary but look on ebay and do a search for Apistogramma Cacatuoides. although postage would bump the price up quite a bit.

Nice thanx guys! So not to expensive fish then,
Seen a couple on ebay, WIll watch them, See what they go for! I do have 7 LFS near me, So hopefully should find some sometime soon anyhows

Yours are doubles and I can safely say that kesgrave sells only doubles, he doesn't have supers :good: he's also a pain to get refunds out of grrr

I have a pair housed..erhhh tanked with angels and bolivian rams and assorted other fish and all is fine except for a bit of bullying. My male is tough guy of the lower third of the tank so stays out of the angels' way. He has never damaged another fish, just chased a bit. The female, by far the tiniest fish in the tank keeps to herself but is not shy about food or chasing bigger fish away from her little territory. Important to note that they are basically bottom dwellers so keep that in mind when stocking a tank. Oh and I got mine through the post from a breeder. I paid I think $30 for the pair? Maybe $20 I can't remember.

I also have a pair. Female left, Male right. (male also in sig)

Absolutely lovely fish, female is quite aggresive though, despite being small.

James. :good:

I got my pair from an ebay auction - £2.13p for the pair.
Double reds and have grown out into stunning looking fish.
Neither are in the slightest bit aggressive - to each other or
anyone else.

Would love to breed them but think my loaches would put a stop to
that happening !!

Sure that's a female, looks suspiciously like a juvvie male :good:

Not sure at all, all's I know is I bought them as a pair from my LFS.

Either way no aggression shown to one another.

James.
