This question is probably asked by many, but what would you recommend for a Juwel Rio 125 tank? I am looking to have a South American themed tank so possibly in with some small tetras and cories, but am struggling for what dwarf cichlids to choose.

Ca/sa will be difficult, not sure of the amount of room apistos need. If you consider African cichlids then you could go for a pair of fairies or a pair of multies. You could also consider the pseudocrenilabrus which is a miniature mouth broader. Interesting article on dwarf cichlids in this months practical fish keeping magazine...

A 3 ft tank will easily take a pair of almost any Apistogramma species, even a trio of most. Alternative that I would consider would be a pair of Laetacara dorsigera, L. curviceps or Nannacara anomala, which are all peaceful cichlids.

If it was my tank, I would go for one species of tetra, one species of cichlid and one species of Cory.. I think the tank would look lovely. Do be aware that most cichlids would benefit noticeably from plants.

Rams or keyholes would also work fine in a tank like that.

I agree with KK, one species of cichlid only and then one or 2 species of tetra and a shoal of cories to finish would make a great tank.

I have just bought a Roma 125 and am planning something similar - a shoal of rummynoses, possibly a group of Bentosi tetra (these look stunning but cost £4 a fish and I find that hard to justify for a tetra) and then 3 or 4 dwarf cichlids - possibly Laetacara Curviceps but going to do some investigating first. I may add a bristlenose plec or similar to that list too.

I would have to disagree purely due to swimming space: I have never seen a Bolivian ram, nor keyhole reach 5-6" in a 3ft tank, but I have seen it often in larger tanks.
