Okay, so I am pretty new at this Betta thing, and your site has been giving me a great education, including all the comments and links. In fact, I've pretty much been reading everything I can find about Bettas so I can feel prepared to breed my two new babies. Anyway... Several folks have mentioned peas! Okay, I can do that.
So, I nuked two peas, skinned them, and started to toss them into the tanks. Then I realised how big they are compared to the regular food! While I was standing there like an idiot with two peeled peas in my fingers, one of them fell into the female's tank. She went at it like a lion after steak, and took a huge chunk out of a half. I figured it was normal to put the whole pea in, maybe broken into halves, considering what I'd seen. So, I split the other pea in half, and dropped it into the male's tank. He just looked at it as if I were deliberately trying to mess up his living space! Then the female went back for more; she seemed almost to choke on the piece, she took so much into her mouth!
I got worried, and fished the pea out of her tank (no pun intended!), and broke it into smaller pieces. I did the same for the male, who still ignored it!
Then I got online and started looking for the real skinny on peas but I couldn't find it. So here's the Dumb Question of the Day:
When you give the Betta its weekly pea, do you put the whole thing in, split it, or mash it up and toss in the bits? And while we're on pea-issues, a whole pea seems like a heck of a lot for one Betta. How much should each one get?
