Well, due to my @$%^&%&(*#%^@# carelesness :*) , I think I have spread a gill disease around to the 5 females mutts and 1 male CT that I have in 1 gallon holding boxes waiting on their tanks to cycle (5 gal for male, 10 gal for females). The symptoms are: loss of color, a red streak behind each eye, and the edge of their gills are red. The meds I have on hand are: Pimafix, Melafix, Bettamax, Maracyn-2, Aquari-Sol, and Stress Guard. I don't have any pictures yet, but I can take some if it will help. I'm treating with Bettamax right now, but I don't think that is going to help. Pimafix and Melafix both say they treat open red sores, and I know that they can be used together, but I am unsure of the dosage for using them together. I'm guessing that since 1 teaspoon is 100 drops, 1 gal would be 10 drops, so it would be 5 drops of each? Can anyone help me with if any of the meds I have will work, or what I should get that will get rid of it? I'm planning a trip to a couple fish stores this weekend so if you tell me what can help, I hopefully will be able to find it. Thanks in advance.

Well... the red stripes could be a pattern of the fishies colouring so I think that a pic will help

It's not a pattern of the fishes coloring. A couple of them don't have any red on them and when I noticed it on the second one, and tonight on the rest of them, it wasn't there when I got them. This pic isn't mine, but one that I found on the forum that looks exactly like mine does. It is here. The pic that I am refering to is the first pic in the post. I probably wouldn't be able to get any clear pics anyway as the plastic boxes I have are kinda hazy......

you don't mention any flashing or gasping so
I'm figuring it is not gill flukes.

the red straking is more condusive to septacemia, the good news is
affected fish can be treated with an anti-bacterial medication, MelaFix or PimaFix.

good luck.

When I was a noob to bettas, my first one started to look like that after the first day (damned Petco). But now he's back to normal. I don't know what it is, but my first guy's a figher.

Now. When you say that your fish look the same as mine, do you mean the tumor?
If you are looking at my pictures and see the red on her gills, that IS her natural color, and has nothing to do with her illness, I hope you don't mean they have the same tumors, I would hate to think that they are contageous.

Oh no, I was refering to the color on the gills.

They were very prominent when I first bought him, but since then they've practically disappeared. I'm not sure that's a good thing anymore. But the little guy's still healthy, so I guess I should be in the clear.

Freshmike, no not the tumor. Just the red spots on the gills. That's yours natural color huh? Hmmm. Maybe I'm just being paranoid then. I will have to take a closer look today, but I'm almost positive that none of them had it when I first got them, plus they are going pale. I think I'll keep an eye on them for a couple more days before I start any treatment just to be sure. Thanks for the help everybody.
