Hi, i am currently converting a juwel rio400 i have to a marine tank and moving my marine setup fom my rio180 into it.

The 180 holds 30-35KG poss 40KG of LR in it and has been running for a fair while 6months +
I have a poly box of dry LR that came from a mates tank shutdown that he soaked in RO to clean some die off off of it as his tank maintanence went down hill due to other commitments. WOuld it be safe to add this dried out rock to the Rio400 along with the Live Rock outta the rio180 and tansfer stock the next day, as i have a mate that needs my old Rio180 to house his fish in his new house (moving fom parents and they want to keep the tank they have.)

Failing that i will have to add piece by piece on top of the sand bed as i want to add new sand to the Rio400 before stock goes in.

Wouldn't suggest doing so... Doesn't sound like the LR is in very good condition and it could potentially trigger a small cycle. If you were to do so, I would wait and test the water before adding any stock.

Its pretty clean but whats luking inside might not be, could i soak again in a tub of RO and scrub or failing that leave it be and just transfer current rock and stock from running system and then add cured rock from a supplier

You would be best re-curing this dry rock in a container outsie of the tanks. Use some old water change water and a powerheads. Then soak it there.

agree with Ben, put it in a large bin type container with some live rock, powerhead and heat

You will be told 'food' safe but i know a reefer who kept cured live rock in the plastic bins you buy from B & Q - those garden type containers - he kept the rock in there for six months or more - no harm done! I sometimes wonder if we are a bit precious about our marine hobby. I transport live rock in non food safe crates and have kept a fish in one before now as well

it sure is expensive, but with the bigger tank after the initial fill up you will use less salt
