Hi

I've had a couple of fish die of what I think is dropsy (two platy, two neon). These have been spread apart my a month or so.

Is this a parasite that lives in the water and moves from fish to fish?

I read somewhere it wasn't and it was not really infectious.

I also read it could be caused by poor water quality or poor diet. I really don't think its a water quality issue. It could possibly be poor diet. I have been looking into other forms of food. I've had a container og GVG which contains flakes plus 'tastey morsels'. However I ran out of this - did my usual trick of dropping it all over the floor (so I hoovered it, which made the hoover stink) - anyway I now have sera flake food as the pet shop had no more of this GVG.

What else can I feed them?

I have some Sea monkeys so maybe I could grow some brine shrimp. This sounds soft, but I am an animal lover and feel a little uneasy about feeding them live food, although I would consider it.

I have danios\betta\neons\sharks\khuli loach.

Cheers
Andy.

Can i ask what size tank, and how many and what type of each fish you have. And also what filtration.

Dropsy is a build up of fluid in the fish that goes off for want a better word, when the fish dies generally the belly ruptures releasing the toxic liquid into the tank. If you get dropsy its generally best to remove the fish and treat in a seperate tank so if it does burst you dont infect the rest of the tank

There are loads of foods on the market.

Flake, Pellets, Frozen, Live, Freeze Dried etc
