I read it somewhere before, can someone tell me what benefits we might have to putting 'real' driftwood in our tank, or what we might expect? I thought I read somewhere that driftwood will actually lower PH somewhat...but not sure on that one. For now, we just have artificial ornaments, including artificial driftwood pieces.

Also, I've been looking but haven't found anything yet nearby, if I need to get my driftwood by mail order, any places to reccommend?

Thanks.
Angie
It would be for the tank below...

If you don't post the picture of your blue gourami somewhere you are crazy! What a looker... I enjoyed your webpage - have horses too and it was fun to see yours. Thanks for the tour.

Here's a site that sells driftood.

Here's another link that contains info on driftwood.

Practially all my decor, except my fake plants, are real. I use bogwood, large rocks and pebbles. This gives it a more natural look, IMO. I used to have lots of fake stuff, but it just looks too fake. The reason I am using fake plants, is my lighting. I would really like nice plants, but they require more intense lighting than the typical common flourescent tank lights I have.

Depending how large your driftwood is, it may not lower your pH, of so, not much. It will, more than likely, leak tannin (harmless, but lowers pH & soften water a bit), which turns your water to a light brown (tea like) color. This will eventually go away after frequent water changes and replacement of your carbon filter.

Thanks for the info, and the compliments! I will check those sites out and see what I can find.

Crazie Eddie, do you have some L-046 now? Awesome fish in pictures, would LOVE to see one in person! I've never seen one at any LFS, probably because they're just too pricey......

Good luck in your breeding adventures, look forward to hearing your success!

petco.com has inexpensive Maylasian driftwood. Mind that you won't get cool branchy pieces, but they still look nice for $15 after s&h. They're about 1 foot high pieces.

wellaby wood has some awesome pieces too. i've seen nice pieces for decent prices online

Thanks. I don't have them yet. I have 3 sources for them and none of them have the L046s in stock. I should have them by May or June. They are an awesome looking fish and still very popular, which is why I decided to breed them. I know there's someone willing to buy them.

FYI...another reason real driftwood is nice becuase some pl*cos eat the wood to supplement their diet.
