Hi,
I got 2 large beautiful pieces of driftwood from the petstore yesterday. They have slate bottoms. I have been soaking them in the bathtub for 24 hours and they still down sink. What am I doing wrong? How long does it take till they become saturated enough to put in the tank?

Try soaking them for a couple more days, maybe that helps. I bought one piece of driftwood that floated, kept it in a bucket filled with water for several days (don't know how long it took to completely soak it), and after that it sank just fine.

I get driftwood with the slate bottom too. The large one in my 55 had to be pinned down with a large rock on top of the slate even after I soaked it for a week in a 5 gal bucket. Smaller ones I've soaked for a couple of days and they will stay down when I cover the slate with gravel.

   But I wanted to put it in today!!!!!
What a bummer. Oh well, I'll be patient.

I am not sure how the slate is attached. Boiling might ruin the glue or silicone. I just go down to the beach and grab driftwood. I have a pond out front that I stick the pieces into to get them soaked, and I have had two pieces in there for almost a month that are still floating. I am not saying this to scare you, just to let you know that it is not necessarily an instant thing. If you have any other rocks to put on the slate to help weigh it down I am sure that would help. Just be careful, I have almost shattered a hood before when the wood shot off the bottom and rocketed to the top.

Good luck

P.S. I guess I did not clarify anything did I rsz ;)

i didn't think about how the slate is attached though - maybe boiling isn't the greatest idea
