Driftwood Decoratons

Has anyone made driftwood decorations of some sort for the tank, How should i treat the drift wood. If i went down to my beach (saltwater, In long island sound.) And picked up a few pieces of driftwood for the tank what should i do. Boil the pieces i would assume is a must, Should i treat it with anything such as bleach or whatnot? Is this just sounding like a bad idea?? If so how can i make my own driftwood in a relatively short amount of time. Any responses would be greatly appreciated.

Can it be done with driftwood out of freshwater such as a lake?
