Dreaded Algae

posted in a nother section about my hair algae problems i have a fair few plants, some people were sugesting tht i should leave the lights off pretty much all day to kill the algae, but wanted to know whether this will harm my planys or not???
please reply desperate to kill the stuff

Plants and algae need light, if you turn the lights off to kill the algae it'll also affect the plants.

Do you know what type of hair algae it is?
