I had a tank with 2 american puffers, 2 red eye red tailed puffers, 4 tiger barbs and 2 flying foxes. Just the other day i introduced a dragon puffer to the tank and he has killed both south american puffers :( i am not thinking of rehoming all my fish apart from the dragon puffer as i think he is really kool even though he kille dmy two babies :( i wanted to make my tank pretty plain.. like white sand, a log. and about 2 plants. the tank i have is 100 litres n i wanted to know if i could house another dragon puffer with him as the shop had two and the puffers got on well. if i do set a tank just for dragon puffers is there anything else i could put with them? thank you

Keeping a single Tetraodon palembangensis in a 100-litre system is pushing your luck. They're fairly large fish when mature, around 15-20 cm seems typical, and like all puffers, they do best in systems with good water quality.

You certainly can't keep two specimens in a tank this small. They are territorial, and while some people have kept multiple specimens together, they have done so in very large aquaria.

Since Tetraodon palembangensis is a fish-eating species, it can't reliably be housed with anything else. Armoured catfish might be an option, but it's not really worth the risk.

Cheers, Neale

Hi Sharz,

for a minute I thought perhaps you'd bought my old humpback puffer as I took him/her to a shop for rehoming a few weeks ago, but that was in Leicester. Had it for a couple of years, ate all my fish when I first introduced it (bloke in shop said it would be fine but i guess it's really my fault for not doing homework). It's a pretty dull fish. Just sits still on the bottom all day long and only moves about at night. I wouldn't put anything else in with it. From what I read they don't get on too well with their own kind either.

Good luck. If I can be of any help just give me a shout.

Having realsied it's 2010 not 2009 I reckon you probably figured this out for yourself a long time ago. sorry. hope it all worked out. : )
