First place at State 4-H horse show!! WHOOEE!!
Hi all,
I am going to get a double stand for two new tanks, one to house african cichlids (Mbuna) and one to be a planted community. I have been researching Mbuna and most of the info that I found says that the best tank size is 40 and up. I was originally planning on a 30/20 combination, but with the mbuna, It would be easier to get a 40/20 or 40/30 combination. My question is, are there double stands like that out there that are reletivly (spell??) common??? And at a fairly reasonable price?
Thanks so much!!

Uh, I've never seen one. Sounds like a custom job to me. Usually stands are for the one tank only, but I could be wrong. Someone might make one, but it just sounds unlikely. Tanks come in all different sizes, so to try and pick two that people are going to likely put together would be a shot in the dark. Sorry. :(

I have seen double tank stand around, not often. However the bottom part usually can only hold small tank like 10 or 15 gallons! :)

Most double stands that I've seen are metal, and they aren't very sturdy for larger tanks. I'd do a DIY tank if I were you :)

Typically you find double tank stands for tanks up to 48" long. Yes you have one tank sit on top and underneath. The lower tank's part of the stand holds the tank and adds rigidity to the stand. They are pretty common, here in the UK they can be found from various online suppliers, I've also seen them at "pets at home", holly bush and my walsall LFS.

No, usually as with the ones I've seen they take two tanks the same size. The on a top view you'd see two rectangle frams with the legs going up the outside, hence why its two tanks the same size.

I've got a standard wrought iron stand that holds a 55 gallon on the top, and I put a couple of boards on the bottom angle iron framework to hold a 20 long and a couple cannister filters. Building your own is really more economical, but I was in a pinch when the old stand started to fall apart. Spent $50 for the iron stand, just this weekend spent $130 on enough treated lumber and screws to build 2 double 29s, and a triple 10, with enough left over wood to make at least one more double 29. The 29 stands are made to take a 20 tall or 29 on either level. Building them yourself you can do pretty much anything you want.
