Hello Guys

Does anyone keep these kritters or know anyone here who sells them?

Do they breed very well? they seem to grow alot bigger than MTS which was the main appeal for me.

I saw some in a pet shop and was really tempted but was completey put off by the price....£5 each! rip off i thought at the time.

The snails I've seen being sold in Europe as Dominican Trumpet Snails are Tarebia granifera.

They breed just as easily as MTS, and are the same size.

hmmm maybe the ones I saw were not dominican snails then. shame really as i had thought I had at least the name right!

Anyone have any DTS in their tanks at home?

Could they have been Sulawesi snails that you saw? These are the same shape as trumpet snails but much larger. This would justify the high price tag you saw for them as well.

Sulawesi snails would certainly explain the size and pricing.

As for the "Dominican Snail", a more commonly used name is Quilted Melania. I have at least a hundred crawling all over my tanks.

I think you could be right...there are not many pictures on the internet of Sulawesi snails that I could find but the ones I could look like them...hmmm was £5 each a bargain then? :X

Also they can grow HUGE by one of the piccs I saw!
