Hi, i have just started looking for gravel for my 60 gallon aquarium and the price of gravel for that size of a tank can be a little high. so i went to a gravel company (one that specializes in construction, not aquatics) . i found an interesting type of rock called dolomite and would like to use it because its only 5.80 per cubic foot. the only problem is that i dont know whether it can be used safely in an aquarium. if anyone has ever heard of this and knows if it can be used please tell me.

Thanks. :)

Get a sample and test it.

You should only used stuff that will not react with anything to affect your water parameters eg. pH, metals, minerals, etc. As long as you can be sure that it is inert (non-reactive) and you wash it thoroughly i don't see a problem IMO.

Dolomite is very powdery I play on it when i play baseball so it might cloud your water...
