Dojos And Peacock Eels

It's a bad idea. Spiny eels are very difficult to feed. They basically take only live and wet-frozen foods; dried foods are almost never accepted. They're also rather slow feeders. You don't want to keep them with anything that feeds at night or from the substrate. No catfish or loaches!

thanks for the advice i wont try that then what does go with peacock eels

Peacock eels will live alongside all sorts of deep-bodied tetras and barbs that aren't going to nip at them or steal their food. X-ray tetras, red-eye tetras, ticto barbs and five-banded barbs are about the right sort of size and personality. Alternatively, because adding a little salt (1-2 grammes per litre) makes them hardier and more disease-resistant, you might choose salt-tolerant tankmates such as platies and swordtails. Guppies could work, but very small males might be at risk of being eaten!

hi neale can you please help me out in the predator sectiom I have two posts thank you and also my fire eel doesnt like earthworms im a little curious??

They normally love them. Review environmental conditions; the eel may not be eating because it's unhappy. Fire eels need a spacious tank, fairly warm water, excellent water quality, and water chemistry that's neither too soft or too hard. The addition of 1-2 grammes of salt/litre can be beneficial, especially with newly-imported specimens, though it isn't strictly necessary. One spiny eels are settled, they normally have quite large appetites, so I'd be very concerned if your specimen hasn't eaten for more than a week.

he eats just not earthworms I thought they loved them as a treat?

No, they're all quite large.

Do look at Altolamprologus compressiceps "Sumbu Dwarf" as an alternative for small tanks. Similar in shape and habits, but more peaceful and of course much smaller.

Cheers, Neale

Quick question is there such thing as a dwarf tiger fish?
