Apparently they have a substitute or second breathing apparatus in the form of their intestine, which they use to derive oxygen from the air.
I have seen this on a few websites durring my research....but not all...
Can someone clarify if this is fact or just fiction.
Thanks
I don't keep dojo loaches so I didn't look at this before but I saw your post in "Not an active forum" and thought I'd come take a look! I looked into keeping them a while back but decided against it as I don't have a large enough tank to make cool water.
From my recent research and talking to some people on another forum who keep them, I understand that they do gulp air and audibly fart...
I haven't seen any diagrams or reasearch journals or anything like that but that's probably because it's pretty straightforward: swallow, absorb oxygen, fart.
If you're thinking "Well, I've already heard that but I'm wondering if it's true", I can't help you there. My knowledge may not be any better than yours. As it is, if you get some, you'll know if they do this or not, and I'll still be stuck with second hand knowledge even if your do it, as your account will be second hand (to me) as well. I doubt you'll get any better information than that on the internet, unless you end up finding a particular person who keeps them who you trust for whatever reason. Whatever the case I've seen many instances of people talking on forums about their dojos farting. Gross, funny, rude, whatever you'd like to call it. I think my husband would love them for it. I guess you could call it a human-like behavior.
