since i started becomeing involved with the fishes i have learned alot but this question is weird to ask but nesasary to learn some people have told me that feeding dog food to your fish wont harm them and it can be used as an alternitive food source is this right or wrong? :D

I've heard of a lot of people that do but not sure why. Fish food is made so the fish get exactly what they need in the correct proportions.

well, sure... if my fish was going to starve because there's a shortage of fish food then I'd give it a shot, but until then I'm not feeding them mammal food any time soon. ;)

I know that Oscars like dog food, beef heart etc but I dont think I would feed it to my community fish.

Oscars prefer their food in large chunks and this is why they like meats etc.

Stick with the flake and some frozen IMO>

Feeding fish too much mammal protein can cause problems in their digestive system.
Plus feeding dog food would probably be messy and cause water pollution problems, best to stick to proper fish food.

Feeding fish with dog food will make them healthier and live longer! Their coat will be nice and shiney and they will be mans best friend :D :kira: :p WOOF WOOF! :p

spot on cory keeper, dog food or meat has too many complex proteins for the majority of fish. I would nt do it, you can never be sure what goes in to these cans off factory floors or the cans come to that.

I have a buddy whose Pacu is now 16 inches and wont eat anything but cucumber and Iams dog food. He has bought about twenty different kinds pellet fish food and it wont touch them. Fortunatly for me my fish love everything thing he has bought and I have at least a two year supply of food.
