I made a quick sketchup of a 55 gallon tank stand I would like to construct. I would be using 2x4's for the frame then thinner wood on the outside which would be stained to look nice. So I was wondering if anyone who might have past experience on doing this could give some constructive comments on my project. Thank you for any comments and thoughts.

Looks more than sturdy to me. I built something similar, been using it for years, the outside legs aren't doubled up, but it is lower, just high enough off the ground to slide milk crates under. The outside four uprights are extended up, for a second level that accommodates a couple of 20 highs;

i might try that lol cheaper than the real backing i also thought of using blue plastic dust sheets/tarps that really thin polythene stuff just folded a couple of times so its not as translucent and its really cheap too :good:
