I have recently bought a new Fluval filter and have adjusted the setting so the flow isn’t the strongest (plants not moving) I have adjusted the valve so that bubbles are coming out. The tetra seem to be happy but I’ve noticed if they sit for a second they slowly drift, is this preferable?

Can you post a video so we can assess the movement? And see what tetra species, some like currents, some less. If the plants are not moving, it is not likely too much, but may not be enough (?). A video will tell us. You upload the video to YouTube, then post the link here.

I don't think it is too much at all. But you do want good surface disturbance, and that should be easy to fix. Position the filter return close or at the surface so it causes rippling along the surface down the back of the tank. That should do it. The only other thing you need are some floating plants. :good:

Lovely tank.
Unfortunately the neon tetra have white growths on their mouth which could be a viral disease that we are seeing often in the UK.

Hello cp. I keep several different species of Tetras from the smaller Red Eyed to the much larger Buenos Aires Tetras. I've found if you perform large water changes every week, you don't need expensive filtration. Any filter will just be filtering water that is already clean. I use a simple sponge filter or even two with an air pump and the cost is minimal. The sponge moves the bubbles from bottom to top instead of a waterfall effect. The Tetras are fine with the upward moving bubbles and aren't forced to the bottom if they swim through the filter that forces the water down.

Hi, is there a cure for this?

No. This is a slow disease. Some may succumb sooner but they can last for several months. Sometimes when the mouth is deformed they become unable to eat.
I still have one that survived - she is about 4 years old, I can't risk getting her new friends because they might get the virus.
