When i went to an aquatic store today, i heard someone saying that skimming removes calcium from marine tanks. Is it true ?

dont think so, it removes good stuff though like micro life and iodine and other trace elements. I guess some calcium is lost but i doubt any substantial amount because there is never any calcium buildup in my cup when i go to clean it.

Skimmers remove ONLY bipolar molecules which are 99% of the time organic molecules. Salts like Calcium, Carbonate, Magnesium, Stronium, and Iodine are ALL unipolar molecules and NOT remoed by skimmers. Some very small microlife can be removed, as well as some organics which may be beneficial to the ecosystem, but by in large, a skimmer is designed to create a nutrient-poor environment similar to the natural reef.

I thought it seemed a bit weird when i heard it.

If skimming did remove calcium im sure it would make keeping it at the right level quite hard.
