I’ve had my betta fish Comet for a few months, and I just noticed pink streaks on his white tail. I was gone this past week and I had my sister take care of him. I came back Saturday to find out that he had tail rot (his tail used to be so long and pretty but now the end is very short). My sister did not do any water changes while I was gone. I believe Comet is one of those marbled fish (or whatever they’re called, when they can change color over time) so I don’t know if it’s just color change or ammonia poisoning. His pink streaks are only present on his tail, and he has no other symptoms. I feed him every morning and am currently doing water changes every other day due to his tail rot. I’m also using the dechlorinater API STRESS COAT+. (He also lives with a small snail named Maurice, in a four gallon tank). Please respond soon I’m freaking out! The stripes are hard to see in the pictures but they’re there

Pics are not posting. Set your camera resolution to smallest/lowest setting and try again. If using IPhone, Step back away from fish and zoom in.

I doubt it’s ammonia poisoning if she only went a couple of days without doing a water change though.

Sorry I’m still not sure how to post pics. What I did is I took the pic on iPhone, chose copy ICloud link and pasted the link into the image url box. What exactly am I doing wrong? Thanks!

The fish has fin rot.

Do a 75% water change and gravel clean the substrate every day for a couple of weeks.

Add rock salt, sea salt or swimming pool salt at the dose rate of 2 heaped tablespoons per 20 litres of water. You will have to add salt to any new water that you add when you do a water change too.

If there is no improvement in a couple of days with salt, you will need some medication. An improvement will mean there are no more red lines in the tail/ fins and the tail or fins haven't gotten worse.
