cucumber

lettuce

and 1 piece of garlic

and a little water to 3/4 fill a blender blend till smooth put some in a freezer bag lay it down and fold 1" of the open end over (to stop it coming out) and flat it out in the bag to about 5/7mm thick and then freeze it and thats it

any comments on this of other thing to add and try

i have to admit i never ever go near the fish counter at the super market
are these things availible frozen?

wouldnt mind having go at these for my oscar... whats "them giant fake prawn things" ?

I added spinach instead of cucumber and lettuce, but you can use whatever plant matter you want.
the only other thing I changed was adding blue sardines or muliies to the mix. These are like a whitebait but are blue in colour and have a lot more oil in them.

for Shelagh
you are better off just cutting raw fish and prawn into chunks or even feeding them whole if you have large predatory fishes like oscars. If you use small bits of food for them most of the food goes through their gills and ends up rotting on the bottom of the tank.

yes you can get prawn and fish frozen. Check out your local fishing store for bait, or the supermarket, which should have frozen seafood as well as fresh.

evrything was frozen and defrosted apart from the veges lol i forgot to put i used 360g of live blood worm(three packs) in it too, most of it is from tesco apart from bloodworm (obviosly lol) and whitebait (frozen sprats) they are from my lfs

do you live in a fish restaurant?

we usually have 3 or 4 of those things in the house at any time, but i refuse to eat fish and i hate touching dead animals

cool i'll look into getting some of those as sprats are now out of seasen for 4 months

i love eating fish and i always feed my fish thing like all that seperatly so i thought sod it lets blend it up lol my lfs does it but its not as good as mine lol

tham giant fake prawn thing are like crab sticks but in the shape of a prawn and they are about 5" long lol i got them given me when i rescued my now deceased arowana

yes thats very true.,thanks colin. ah well its the thought that counts :) i should have thought after the mess he made yesterday with tuna chunks

the other thing you can add to a fish food mix is gelatine. A small amount can help it stay together better in the water. It's not really necessary tho. And you can freeze the stuff in ice cube trays.
You are better off using frozen bloodworms as a treat and leave it seperate from the fish food mix.

i put the bloodworm in as a protein base i also put some pellets (not many though), it holds its self together really well defrosted it goes spongy but solid if that makes sense lol and the little bits that do come off the litlle fish have (1" convicts )

I make mine, i do a fish one for a majority of my fish and a beefheart/fish mix one for my Discus. I always add spirolina powder and vitamins and for the discus abit of whey protein. I roll it thin in a bag too, great for breaking off a small chunk and pressing it on the glass for the fish to rip apart.

i make my own and we put in the following
mix it all together in a blender
spinach loads of,couple hand falls a whole bag
baby milk (gold)cant remmember
prawns half a cup fall appx
garlic half a clove
peas(frozen)
liver sometimes added half of a peice
this makes abt 2.5kg ish of beefheart mix
and we also put in loads of dry foods that we feed our discus
when i make some again ill list wot i used
my discus love it .....

yeah but if you blend it, doesn't it make a mess of the water?
i don't know if it would make sense for me to attempt making my own?!?!
i got bloodworm in them blister packs for 3 for £5.50 and little prawns from asda for about £1.
every time i try them mixed frozen foods like the cichlid mix and discus mix they make a right mess of the water!
the most expensive things i get is live meal worms, but i don't think there is any substitute for them lol.
