I've ordered some blue bumble bee shrimp and some blue tiger shrimp from my LFS he has a delivery once a month from he's supplier in Asia so i wont know til 2nd week in october wether he can actually get them

Do you know if these species have any special requirements or are they just the same as the standard tiger and bumble bees

blue bumble bee is listed as caridina breviata (blue)
blue tigers listed as Cardina sp. tiger shrimp (blue)

Any help is appreciated cos i cant find anything about the blue ones and if they are weaker than the standard colours

Thanks Sarah xx

p.s. anyone know what a caridina cf.babaulti - zebra shrimp - is cos the LFS man said he can get these aswell

Blue bee shrimp should be treated as bee shrimp and blue tigers as tiger shrimp. They're just color morphs. :good:

I don't think they breed true, however. You'll end up with some normal babies as well as the blue colored ones.

I agree with tyler, the tigers are just blue versions of the normal shrimp. planetinverts.com have profiles on both of them and they are saying the blue bumblebee might be a separate species to the normal bumblebees. I've never seen caridina cf.babaulti described as a zebra shrimp. Although the cf in the scientific name means a species similar to so it just be anything really :p

How much are they selling the blue tigers for? from what i've seen online they tend to cost at least £10 each.

he's going to phone me with the price and availability but he said depending on what the exchange rate is he should be able to get them for me for £3-£5

he got me normal tigers for 3 for £5 he's a pretty decent guy

As you already have some normal tigers i would consider not getting the blue tigers as they will breed together and the babies will mostly look like normal tigers. The bumblebees and babaulti should be fine with your other shrimp though.

Edit: Unless they are for the tank youre cycling at the moment then it wont matter

Thanks shrimper for the info

yeah if i can get the blue tigers they will eventually go in the old 30ltr shrimp tank ~(when the others go to the Rekord) but until then they will go in the community 180ltr and wont go anywhere neat the other tigers .lol
Cos it would be nice just to try and breed the blue ones something different isnt it :)

EDIT: thinking again when some have bred i will transfer another colony to the community tank so if anything happens to the little tank i still have some left and can introduce new ones again to the little tank :)

Great Idea, i wish i had done this with my CRS before the tank crashed.

Good choice of filter on the stingray btw, its the one i used in my shrimp tank and i had no issues with shrimplets getting sucked into it. :good:

If i hadn't read what sadly happened to your CRS i would never have thought of doing 2 colonys so i have to thank you for that
I agree the stingrays are excellent little filters they are also quiet
