Hi,

Does anyone know the K rating of an Interpet Triplus fluorescent bulb?

It's not on the packaging and can't find it using web searches.

You might have more luck if you can find the ellusive Interpet website. Does anyone know this main site or the name of the parent company if any.

I found this

gf225's Basic Guide to Lighting

Which I think states it as 8300K?

I also found Interpet's website but it doesn't translate well from Portuguese.

Interpet

I can't believe that they don't have a website in english.

8300K is more an "educated guess". I found the 8300K in an American site referring to the older Triton tubes. These are a very similar tube to the newer Triplus in terms of both colour temp. and intensity. I had the two types next to each other and couldn't see any difference, of course that doesn't mean there wasn't any.

Both are decent plant growth tubes IME, although if I had to choose one it would be the Interpet Daylight Plus (6500K).

No idea why there's no site - bad form really.

Thats good to know.

After buying it I researched lighting and learnt what K is a measurement of.

I previously assumed it was light intensity and was going to buy the highest K value tube I could find!

The only thing that stopped me was that the highest K value tubes were thankfully labeled "Marine".

I'm worried that the Triplus tube has too high a K value and as such to much blue light which promotes algae growth?

The LFS I bought it from didn't have the Interpet Daylight Plus.

What do you think is the best T8 tube for both growing plants and to optimally view fish?

I decided to change the tube for two reasons, to help plant growth and because I didn't like the yellow light produced by a Sun Glo tube that came with my aquarium set up.

I Googled these lamps because I was wondering myself, a few of the shops who have them list the colour temps as 14000K, this is for the PC's though.

I don't know how respectable these places are and how accurate their information is.
Mines a standard T8 tube. I hope it's K reading is not as high as that.

I once wrote to Interpet asking what the K rating of their Daylight Plus (T5) tubes are. They replied saying that their manufacturers were unable to give them the information! I wondered what they were designed and tested to then!

I bought some anyway. The box does have a spectrum shown on it showing the peak wavelength which can be approximately converted to K using Wein's law.
