i have 2 bettas a VT male and PK male that are very **hand shy** if i go up to them they come say hello swim about but as soon as my hand comes in to veiw they dart about and get them scared strips so i call them hand shy bettas, does anyone know how to stop them being so scatty?
even when i feed them they wit untill the hand goes untill they come out to eat

My ct Six is that way.
He sees me coming to the tank and he swims behind his plant and hides.
I've had him for several months, and he's still the same.

My Sky is like that, only with other fish. If he sees either merlin or jenga through the divider, he flips out and hides.

aww bless them, ive had the PK for his hole life as he is one of my home bred one's and the VT about 3 weeks, its a shame i think when ive not been here someone has been taping on there tank so they dont like seeing a hand coz they think they are gunna me shocked.

coz my mum always has her grand daughter round :p

The white guy's a wimp. The other two, well, loonies, flare at anything, think they're biiig, strong men :flex: . But him- I've only seen him flare once, he swims around like a loony if you put him near other bettas.... Wimpy maroo :)

I completely reversed the shy nature of one of my bettas by giving him a mirror just long enough for him to flair at it. After this, I imediately remove the mirror and feed him, the victor! Don't know if the same is true of your fish, but mine just needed to feel more confident in himself!

Hunter is shy around people, but not around other bettas. If he catches a glimpse of Vince he flares and goes crazy, but if I do more than just drop in pellets around his tank, he swims to his cave and hides with just the tip of his nose peeking out!! It's so cute.

Of course he could remember that I'm the one who almost shot him out of his tank one day when I was trying to adjust his filter by stuffing floss into the riser tube on the undergravel filter. Apparently I put too much floss in the tube and blocked the air from coming out at all. The air all built up under the filter and suddenly we had all this air shooting up from the bottom of the tank. It caught Hunter in the current and almost shot him out of the tank before I could yank the air line out of the pump. :*)

 It was right after that he started hiding in the cave. Hmmmmm.

Okay, maybe he's not shy, he's just scared to death. :dunno:
