Does anyone have a shelf?

I want to add a little more room (surface area) to my tank and I think I have a solution. I was thinking of building a shelf to put in my 20 gal. tank I was thinling of making it about 8 inches off the gravel and about 8"X10" (I don't have exact measurements yet). After looking around on here I have decided to use rocks and silicone them together for the legs of the shelf, but I am lost as to what to make tha actual shelf out of. Can I just use a board, or will that warp underwater? What type of materials can I use that will be safe?

Would Plexi-Glass work? I can get some cut and use that as a shelf. I'm so exited, I can't wait to get started on this. It was just and dea I had last night sleeping.
