so I have a couple of friends that have fish tanks, probably no more than 100l. But they have A couple of neon tetras a gourami, a single guppy a single clown loach, and a generic plec. No matter what I tell them from my knowledge and experience they think they know better!

I used to have friends like that! Constantly telling me I’m doing something wrong with my tank and never looking at they’re own! No wonder I’m not friends with most of them anymore for being so mean over either unneeded jealousy or just a small setback! ?

Not about Fishkeeping, but I do have “friends” that think they know everything and they sure let me know it.

When I had friends they used to ask me to help them set their tanks up and if they had problems, they called me asking for help. And when they moved house they asked me to help with that too :)
Although we did get it down to an artform. Strip and move a 6ft tank and set it back up at another location in half a day.

With the exception of fishkeeping friends in the club (Central New York Aquarium Society) I don't currently have any friends that have aquariums.
With the exception of my Website/Blog and discussion forums, I tend not to offer advice unless asked. There are lots of opinionated folks out there and there are always some that wanna think they're always right. I've found that the more I've learned, the more I've learned that there's even more stuff to learn...and that applies to the fishkeeping hobby as well even after over 50 years in the hobby. :)

I have a father like that, he built tanks and raised fish in the 60's and 70's, but now is very good at pointing out the problems with using soil, sand, or anything that doesn't match his ideal of the perfect gravel. He is also very opinionated on fish types, clown loaches being his favorite. Although it is still nice to have someone who has past fish keeping history to talk with.

I don't have any friends that keep fish, but then I really don't have many friends either, which seems to be a theme here (other than you all).

Woah my grandfather's the exact same! (apart from the fact his favourite fish are angelfish) He used to keep a huge angelfish tank and once came round to my house when I was 9 with a random bag with newspaper in and I'd sit there and think what the hell is that? He'd then take out two large beautiful zebra angels for my tank and ever since angelfish just really hold a place in my heart.. Now I've come across severums and well yeah they are now my best friends who I'll sit with for hours watching them be severums hahaha :)

I don't really anymore either but we are all friends on here which is why I love these forums :)

I quit worrying a long time ago about other people's terrible fish decisions. If they ask, I help. Sometimes if they don't ask, I offer to help anyway. If they don't take me up on it, I forget about it. Most people don't want to take the time to educate themselves and set up a tank right, and that's just the way it is. Life is too short to worry about things that I can't control.
