My tank has been running for 4 months now haa rah......... While I do my regular weekly 10% water change and the usual measured parameters are all very desirable I have notice a brown foam on the surface. Last week I gave the filter a good clean out and since then have noticed this foam has appeared. Excessive DOCs (dissolved organic compounds) are not desirable and I have done 30% water change with a further 10% following tomorrow. I have a purigen bag in the tank and am aware that a skimmer would certainly solve the build up of DOCs but was wondering if there was any other methods to remove these compounds? I have a 24g D&D so trying to fit a skimmer inside is near on impossible without running the water level really low and modifying the hood. I really do not like that; try to fit a skimmer before but didn't work. I was thinking on a sump which could house the skimmer but unsure what flow rate is needed, the best return pump for this and all the other little bits on settling one up. I have a little 10-12 liter cube (12"x12"x12") which I was thinking of using. What are people's thoughts?? Most appreciated if you could help ...... Ski or other generous folks
