Its not just asking how many members research there fish before they do buy fish.
If you don't like the thread, don't answer.

90% of the time.If i see a fish which i know is valuable or rare and is going for a cheap price i will buy it and look at it's care after.

Most of the time I do, although i did get my apisto's without researching them too closely, the same with my dwarf gourami. That said All the fish i have are pretty good small community fish, so not a great deal of research needed. If I was going to go for something with more specific needs such as discus, a large pleco (tank size mainly), takangan (spelling?) cichlids, or any marines, then yes i would do plenty of research before making any potentially expensive mistakes.

Most of the time I do. Sometimes I don't but that's usually when it's something like a cory or other large genus or family.

I do all the itme. Most of the time my impulse buys aren't really impulse. I'll go to the lfs to get some routine things, then see a fish that I "jsut have ot have". So then I go home and research the crap out of it... google is my friend here... if its compatible, then hurry back to the lfs and pray that it wasn't sold. Sometimes I wind up on the wrong end of the deal where the fish was sold, but at least I didn't buy a fish I couldn't take care of :).

Wilder is right. Anybody want a redtail catfish? :hey:
I research my fish, and that does me good. By the way, yesterday I bought some parrots feather plant, and in the bag, in a few drops of water appeared to be an aquatic insect larvae of some sort. I put him in my aquarium. Hope he survives!

Well, I'm going to have to say no, but not the way you think. Simply that I know most of the standards of species. If I see a firemouth, I'm going to know I can't keep it in my already-overstocked 10 gallon. Now if a saw a zebra plec for 5$...

i do though i should have done more research on frontosas because i have to return my 2 becasue they get to big. stupid me.

Kind of a strange post; but, what I do is take one trip into the petstore to get me interested in something new, and then I take another trip in to purchase it if it fits.

when I started out I didn't... well, I researched in a very outdated book. Now I research here before buying any fish.

I research and research and research and by the time I've done researching the fish already in my tanks have given birth again, so there is no room for any shopping  My big problem is I am a complete sucker for the swishing of tiny fins...
