With fish euthanasia? -_-

If you knew that a fish was ill and beyond curing would you be able to end it's suffering?

If it looked like it was in pain, I'd have my boyfriend do it. I think that knowing when to end an animal's suffering is part of the responsibility of taking care of them. I personally am too much of a wussy to do it myself, but I let a fish die on it's own before, and I really regret it.
Just over the weekend my friend accidentally ran over his brother's dog. The dog was not going to make it, and I won't go into it graphically, but will say that it was a mess       . He had a choice to love on the dog, tell him he was good, and shoot him in the head, or let him lay there and die. This dog was very loved, and he shot him. I thought it was one of the most humane things that could have been done. :dunno: Sad, but humane.

OMG, how awful!
That had to be the hardest thing ever.
Sorry for your friend. :-(

Yeah, it was awful. RIP Crusher. He had a great life though. He was a hunting dog, and was so happy! He was 16 years old. Point is though that sometimes you just have to make the hard decisions. Whether it be fish, dogs or whatever.

Sorry if I hijacked your post!

bindleybird,
There is also a pinned topic on this subject in the beginner section. Is there a reason that you are asking...sick fish perhaps?

Yep,unfortunately one of my females has got dropsy and isn't responding to treatment.

The problem I have is that I am going away for a week leaving my sister in law to feed the fish and I am worried that she will die when I am gone and my SIL will not see her.I don't want a dead fish in my tank for that long.

It is a dilemma.

Yeah, that sucks. Do you have a seperate tank to put her in? Luckily I haven't had to deal with dropsy, but I have heard that it isn't easy to treat, and usually doesn't respond. When are you leaving? I think that you should post this in the emergency section, and let them know. You will probably get better responses there, and it is indeed an emergency!!! There is also a pinned topic about diseases in the beginner section I think that may give more advice on treatment. Good luck, and I'm sorry that you are in this situation. :/
Make sure that you change the name of the topic though...not very clear what you need by glancing at it....

Thanks for the help Mesome.

At the moment I haven't got another tank and I don't know anyone that has.

I shall go post in emergencies and see what replies I get.
