Hi all,
Do shrimps cross breed at all?
I'm hopefully getting some Cherry, Amano and Ghost shrimps this weekend (10 of each at least) and am going to pop them all in the same 60l tank.
Are they type specific or can they cross breed?
Thanks,
Gazo

Shrimps of the same species may cross-breed. e.g. Neocaridina denticulata sinensis (red cherry shrimp) may cross breed with other Neocaridina species.

As far as I can tell, the shrimps you have listed won't cross breed each other.

Amano - Caridina sp.
Red Cherry shrimp - Neocaridina sp.
Ghost shrimp - Palaemonetes sp.

What about Bumble bee shrimp and Cherry red shrimp? I beleive they are both memebers of the Neocaridina family?

I have Cherry Shrimp at the moment and plan to get some Bumble bee shrimp soon so curious to know.

Bumble bee shrimp is of the Caridina sp. and will not cross with cherry shrimps. However, the two shrimps prefer slightly different water conditions. Bumble bees prefer a slightly softer and acidic environment than the cherries. Cherries are quite adaptable to a wide range of pH and hardness as long as your water quality is pristine.
