Hi, Have a 45gal tank, have shoal of twelve rummy nose, excellent little shoal. Thinking of adding a second shoal, initial thoughts are maybe penguin, silver-tipped, or serpae tetra's. Or maybe some harlequin or zebras.

But I would like them staying in their own shoals, would this be expected, or are the shoals likely to intermix? I like close shoals, I have some platties, they don't know the meaning of the word (too busy breeding...).

Thanks

i don't think they with mix although the shoals might like swim through each other or a stray one might join another shaol, but only for a few minutes and generally they will stay in their own shoals

If the fish you get have similar body shape there is a chance they will shoal..

I don't think the silver tips would school with rummynose.. The penguins I wouldn't expect to, and the serpaes might be nippy and bother the rummys..

Personally I'd go with silver tips or penguins.

i have found that most tetras do mix well mine do any way( perHAPS THEY THINK THEY ARE THE SAME TYPE OF FISH) any way the only i have found not t shoal at all are black neons butthins is only what i have found perhaps others have found it different.

I have neons and glowlight tetras and theyshoal together but not all the. iv'e heard that shoaling fish will only shoal if they feel threatened don't no how much truth behind that but that's what i heard,,

anyway good luck with what ever you do,

luke

i got told by a shop owner once that rummynose and cardinals will never shoal together, i have absolutely no way of saying if thats true though as i only have cardinal tetras.
