I had some slightly green water a few weeks ago, and I bought 3 of these guys (Corbiculidae) from the LFS. In about 1 week I had (and still do have) crystal clear water. Now that the water isn't green anymore, I'm guessing they have significantly less food to eat. They're all quite alive, I see them pop slightly open to expose their mouth for a few hours a day, and they move around at night sometimes.

Now, I've googled and found that people say they basically don't need to be fed (but no seemingly "authoritative" sources, just random mailing lists), and can live off the tiny amount of stuff in the water. However, I'm wondering if I should put them in a separate tank and supplement their diet with phytoplankton every now and then (but then I'm guessing marine phytoplankton bottles contain salt water, which probably wouldn't be good for the clams)?

Do you guys have any ideas for if they need to be fed, and if so what?

I feed mine every now and then with a turkey baster. I use liquid, fry and filter-feeder food, basically things I can easily get at the LFS.

My attempts at clams always resulted in dead clams. I have tried them in various tropical and cold water tanks with no luck. In one inherited tank that was incredibly dirty they lived for about 2 months before they died. I had no luck finding feeding information online either. GOOD LUCK!
