Do I Need A Sump ?

hi there,im tempted to use my 18 gallon as a sump for my new 35G thats busy doing its cycle ? Do I really need a sump or a protein skimmer ? or will a normal 1200 litres an hour filter do the job and say 30% water changes? a week ? or 2 weeks ?

no you wont need a sump, but there are great benefits in using one.
