My new boy (the clear white guy) is now in his tank. I checked the temp this evening, and its around 70-72... Do I need a heater? The other guys tanks are at 80 or above, I'm guessing his tank is so low because it doesn't have a light.
Do you think I should get one of those junior heaters from Wal-Mart? And can I use one of those in a plastic tank? :dunno:

i bought a small heater for my eclipse 3 & it works wonders! i would think that 70-72 is a little too cold for the betta's comfort. definitely try to find a small heater, submersible if possible. my heater is one that can be adjusted from 66-89. i keep it set to 72-74 and the tank actually heats to about 76-78 due to the fact that my 3rd floor apartment retains heat, unfortunately (i'm a cool-weather lover :D )

Why submersible?

that way if it accidentally falls into the water for any reason it won't malfunction. :)

Although get the most decent make you can afford, I got a cheapy and its rubbish. The water is cold most of the time....

you can use the junior heaters in plastic tanks, they don't put out a ton of heat. my 1 gals get to 78 and my 2.5's get to 73-74 (if i only use 1 heater). some of them i have put 2 in the 2.5's!!
