Hi,

current occupants of my tank

4 fancy tail guppies
1 green cory cat
1 albino corry cat

Tank size 10 us gallons

I have heard that corries are happiest in groups of atleast three of thier own kind. I am thinking of giving away my albino and getting two more green cories. Do I have enough room? My filter is a topfin twenty gallon filter and it filters 100 gallons an hour. I change 75% of the water once a week.

I'd only change about 30% of the water once a week considering you have low waste producers and excellent filtration. And since you are overfiltered, I don't see why you couldn't have 4-5 corys along with your guppies. :good:

realy corys are best in numbers of 6+ but they will live happily in 4-5. aslong as you dont get Adolfi Corys (they grow up to 4" sometimes) then you can get them, pigmy corys would be great for you as they grow to 1" and you could have 6 in with your filtration.

You should only be doing about 25-30% water changes a week. I think you would be fine about six corys total in that tank. The fish you labeled don't produce a lot of waste and most of your fish are upper water level swimmers unlike the bottom dwelling corys so they should give each othe rplenty of space.

Thanx,

Actually I spotted some fin rot in m tank last night, so I guess I'll have to wieght a little wile befor I add anything els.

Deos anyone know if pigmy corries are soled in northern Utah? If so, were? So far I haven't found any.

u can have normal corys in a 10 g tank, i have a 5 g with 5 neon tetras and an elegant cory, at my lfs he sez i can get 5 corys with all my other fish and don NOT tell me he is unknowledgeable because he takes care of many saltwater fish that r just brilliant in color and never have disease.

also, i favor normal corys over pigmys because they usually are prettier.

You can not have 5 tetras in a 5 gallon. They need more room to swim about. You cant even keep tetras in a ten gallon. Additionally, one cory by itself is lonesome. It is cruel to keep such a fish by itself. I am sorry but whoever told you that you can do this is sadly mistaken.

You could keep up to 10 neons in a 5 gallon with the right setup and maintenance. However, I'd never subject 5 cories of any size to that size of a tank. They like to run about and explore too much and need room to root around and play. I would say even 5 cories in a 10 gallon is pushing it.

Also, to the original poster, you said you had a "green" cory. He's not an "Emerald" cory like mine is he? If he is then he'll def grow too large for that size of a tank. I feel sorry for mine and she's in a 20.

Adolfoi Corys get to 4"? you sure about that? I was under impression they were like a regular corty at about 2.5-3"

The emerald green corys at my other lfs looked pretty light green and they were already bigger than mine. Mine is very dark green. I've had him for two months and he's only two inches long.

Nah I'm pretty sure they get big. The ones in the shop (the shop where he got them from) were very big I would've thought to be already 2 inches.

So he's got "emeralds" but he told you this was something different? OK maybe its just an aeneus then. They can look similar but stay smaller. If I'm not mistaken the albinos are actually an albino aeneus or bronze cory.
