Do freshwater lights work on marine tanks?

I have a light on my 40 breeder that I will convert to saltwater soon. Will the light work for marine if it’s meant for freshwater? It’s not a very big name brand but it’s an extra my uncle had. It’s called a nicrew led plus. It’s full spectrum. Will it be able to work on marine tanks?

Id ask this in the marine forum towards the bottom of the page. Those guys should know. I know if you are wanting to grow corals a freshwater light wont work.

Light units are exactly the same for fresh and salt water. The only difference is the globe (Kelvin rating and wattage).

Fish only marine tanks (without corals) can use any globes. If you want marine algae, corals or anemones, get globes with a 6500K (K is for Kelvin) rating.

Have lots of light (more wattage and lumens) from marine tanks with corals, anemones and algae.

Whenever I saw marine tanks they always had a slight blue tint. i will post the pictures of the light stats right after this.

They put more blue light on some marine lights so corals luminesce more, but it's not needed. Some marine lights even have ultra violet (uv) light to encourage corals to glow under actinic lighting. Again it's not needed.

Marine lights often come in Kelvin ratings of 8000K and up. Some are around 12000-18000K and these usually have uv light.

Just get a 6500K globe with some red, blue and green light.
