ok, i don't know if this is normal for my eels, but i was wondering if the following things are normal behaviour for the eels i own. If they are acting like this because of not eating, then brine shrimp is the ONLY thing I have not tried yet.

1. My spiny eel sometimes lays on the bottom for hours on end, e.g 3 hours, just sitting there, sometimes on his side. It really scared me, he looked like he was almost dead. Just to check i move him slightly, after that he swam for a little while but then went back to the same position, normal for spiny peacock eels?

2. Is it normal for Kuhlii loaches to act strange like my following descriptions - 1 of the coolies is staying on the ground for long periods of time and the other one has his head up to the surface most of the times. This behaviour has been going on for about 2 days now.

BTW if it would help this is my COMPLETE tank statistics.

Air filter pump + bubbler in one, 1 bubble curtain, 0.5cm gravel, 1 fake elodia plant, 1 fake hollow log, 1 heater on 26 degrees celcius, 18"x8" tank, 1 spiny eels (3 inches long) 4 Kuhlii loaches (2 Inches Each), I feed them frozen bloodworm and live bloodworm.

Please Help! I just don't want my money being lost like this! :-(

Weird, but at least you see your Khuli's, I have 4 and i'm lucky to see 1 every few months, but i know they are alive cos when I do large cleans on my tanks they are all over the place. Have you checked your Oxygen levels? Also i've heard something about live bloodowrm carrying bad bacteria or soemthing like that.

Hope it gets sorted out :)

Sounds like normal behaviour for the eel, i have 3 and all they seem to do is sit around or bury themselves in the gravel. The khuli loaches dont sound good, Khulis usually spend 99% of their time hiding under rocks and bogwood, prehaps a few more hiding places would help.
BTW do you realise that your eel is going to eat those khulis at some point in the near future and is going to need a much bigger tank within a year, spiney eels grow quick and peacocks reach about 8" within their first year, maxing out at around 13 to 14 inches, the minimum size tank i would recomend would be 36" long by 18" wide, height is unimportant.
