Hi ! I've just recently bought 3 congo tetras, they are about 2" long ! I've noticed a few of my neon tetras dissappearing since i've had them, I've looked in all my books and asked people and no-one seems to know if the congos will eat my neons and any other small fish !!! any ideas ?? HELP ! thanks !!!

Yes they will, if a fish can fit in another fish mouth, probably will take it out.

No one feeds them flakes in the wild

I have to disagree, I have two congo tetra's in a 30G with neons for about a year now and they have not eaten any of them, Thats in my experiance other people might have a different opinion. :D

Perhaps not but just because they don't get flakes doesn't mean they're not getting a perfectly good diet of detritus, insects, vegetation, or whatever else falls into the water. They don't necessarily have to be predatory carnivores to survive :)

In my experience, neon tetras will just 'disappear' for no apparent reason. They might appear again in a few days. I lost one a couple of weeks ago and I didn't see it for days, even after I changed the substrate in the tank from gravel to sand it didn't show up. But then a couple of days later, it re-emerged looking as perky as ever!

As canarsie11 says all fish apart from the strict herbivors will eat other fish if they can. Congo tetras are no exception and can and will eat smaller fish and neons are small enough for most fish to view as snacks.

Your making my fish hungry! If I was a fish I wouldn't mind chowing down on a bright red and blue fish that has no camoflauge, easy meal, although not very filling

I agree with CFC, most fish that can swallow another fish will. That said, a 2" Congo is going to have a tough time swallowing a Neon.

Yopu don't say anything about your setup. Is it possible the addition of the Congo's has overloaded your biological filtration and spiked your tank? Neons are very sensitive to Nitrogen pollution.
