I'm thinking of getting 4 black skirts for my 55 gal tank. I want a hardy good size schooling fish that is not a push over. I love watching fish swim together but Im not sure if these guys are known for schooling or are they?

55 gal
2 blue acaras
4 cory cats
1 rubbernose pleco
4or5 black skirts

What other tetras school and are 2-3" have fun persanality?

Not really, no.

I have 4 Black Skirts and they spend most of their time bickering amongst themselves and arguing with my Emperor Tetras. They avoid each other when they can. Perhaps a group of six or more would shoal, but I've not tested that theory.

Don't let it put you off though, they're great little fish; fantastic to watch.

I have 62 (i'm a black skirt breeder) and they make a massive shoal is the indoor rubermaid pond(100 gallons, black skirts only!) i have for them.

So yes, they school if you have a good #

I had blackskirts and they did not school.

My personal favourites are Pristella tetras, they are by far the most entertaining of the tetras i have owned, they have lovely colouring on the fins when happy, and i only have 5 but they school regulally (and try and school with my platys too  ) They are very hardy.

You could also try something like harlequins which are also hardy but are quite abit smaller.
