Ok well ive seen all these people paying ya know $25 for these moonlight led thigys. So i thought id help you people that dont want to pay that much. Befor I got into fish I bought xboxs, modded them then sold them again on ebay (pretty good profit untill thousands of people started doing it. This is very easy if you are ok and good with useing soldering irons. If you dont know what i mean by "modding xboxs" heres one i did
Xbox in daylight
LEDs behind Jewel
Xbox at night
LEDs behind controller ports
So yea thats what i did, it was very fun
ok see heres how we can do the moonlights.
Materials
-LEDs and resistors(i would suggest getting them from http
/www.lsdiodes.com/, but other places would work, get 5-6 extra just incase, there cheap)Resistor calculater HERE you shoud be able to get those numbers from the site you bought the LEDs from
-Soldering Iron, begginers should go with probably a 15 watt iron, experts or people that have done it befor can use 30 watt but it doesnt realy matter
-Solder, can be purchased at radioshack or at radioshark.com The diameter of the solder should be about the size of a tetas eye ball. 3mm about
- Wire, having wire where one is red and one is black makes this a ton easier. You can get any kind of copper wire at a local electronics store, if you dont know what that is just ask if they have any copper wire, most audio wire will be good.
-8 volt power cord to plug into wall and to connect to the wire with LEDs(i used a cell phone charger and cut off the end you plug into the phone
-Hot Glue Gun
Ok so heres the fun part!! So you have your LEDs, your solder and iron, and your wire. The lengh of wire shold be about 6 feet loner then the length of your tank (ie. 3 ft tank 9 feet of wire). Now lay your LEDs out, the loner leg should be the positive leg, if you cant tell or want to make sure search google.
Heres what you need to do know. Decide how many LEDs you want to use probably around 6, well use that as an example. So tank your length of wire and mark off how much of the wire wil actualy cover your tank. Now split that lengh into as many sections as you have LEDs. I'll use a 4 foot tank as an example so i have 8 LEDs and 4 feet of wire, hmm lets see that an LED every about 8 inches (tank length in inches/how amny LEDs you have). So mark off every 8 inches on the wire, excluding the very begging and end. So now you know exactly where the LEDS are going to go. so you need to strip about 1 cm off both wires at every mark where an LED is going to be. now you need to determine what wire is going to be the power wire and what wire is going to be the ground wire. Now get a little solder on the soldering iron and solder the positive leg to the positive wire, do this for all the leds, MAKE SURE ALL POSITIVE LEGS ARE ON THE SAME WIRE!!! now do the same except with the other leg to the other wire, again make sure all the ground legs of the LEDs are on the same wire. Ok so you now have a wire with X number of LEDs on it. Good job, the hard parts done. Now you need to solder your resistor on the vary end of the wire in which all your positive legs are on. ok so now you need the 8 volt power cord, solder the other none soldered end of the resistor to the 8 volt power cord and the ground wire to the other 8 volt power cord. Note on the 8 volt power cord it doent matter which cord is ground and which one is the power cord. OK so everything is ready for the final touches.
-If it dosent turn on right away unplug it and make sure all connections are good.
-If it turns on the quickly turns off. Well better luck next time, you had a non sufficient resistor, get a better one and try again. Thants why we have extra LEDs
-If it works perfectly GOOD JOB
Now all you have to do hot glue all the connections and then electrical tape them (not nesesary but highly encouraged)
If there is any part of this check HERE its close to the same thing and goes more in dep.
Sorry if this is a crapy tutorial but im only 15
and this is the first tutorial ive written but I asure you i do know what im doing ![Big Grin :D :D](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
