hi all. id just like to hear your warnings and advice for a homemade tank and stand that im going to attempt. my reason for doing this is mainly due to the cost of a new one being to high. i have a 130l one at the minute but the alcove its in in the house is bigger so wanted something that is going to fill it.
my uncle is a glazer so can do me the glass for nothing (cut and polish it), ive asked him for 8mm thick normal glass. the tank itself is going to be in the region of 260l. the dimensions are 40"x21"x19". ive read on the internet that the only thing i need to use is aquarium silicone? is this correct, do i not need to glue the glass somehow first and then use the silicone? my uncle is also going to cut me some braces to fix into place.
me and my friend from work are going to attempt the stand/cabinet. he has years of woodwork experience and will do the design and work for nothing (or very little). this just leaves me with the expense of the timber.

i obviously know i need to leave the tank to dry before testing it out outside but im very worried that the seams of the tank will break. is there any way of strengthening the sides of the tank from the outside?

thanks in advance.
