I'm setting up another tank and wanted a way to separate the plant substrate from the sand i want to use at the front (for my cories) So i decided to build a wall, quite pleased how it turned out actually

All that was used was foam, silicon and black quartz sand.

Did you glue the sand on with silicone? It looks really good

Yes sand is glued on. I spread th silicon like iceing a cake and sprinkled sand on a gently pressed it into silicon

Oh, that's awesome! It sounds a lot safer than using cement to get the stone effect. Is it squishy though?

No its not squishy...not enough silicon for that feel

what foam did you use for it ,it looks great :good:

The foam is from foam boxes, i just cut them up and stuck two together to make it thicker :)

That actually looks pretty cool!

Obviously you used aquarium-safe silicone?

How did you weigh it down or did you silicone it to the tank base?

The silicone is Tank safe, can be used to make tanks. This wall is silconed to the base, gonna experiment with weights over time.

Update:

Ok wall stayed where it was supposed to. So 1 decent line of silicon the length of the wall will hold it down.

Ive started putting the substrate into the plant section, miscalculated how much i would need though, grrrrrrrrrr, i'll need to drop into the lfs and pick up more gravel!

Stay tuned, i'll try to grab pics as i'm 'scaping

Finally picked up the bag of gravel i needed (approx 20kg of gravel/laterite/JBL mix behind the wall) Substrate is now all in

I must say i'm rather proud of how it turned out

A great effort (love this section of the forum) When that clears it looks worthy of entering the Tank of the Month :good:
