DIY plants?

IS ther any way to make ur own plants? they are expensive and not that much variety - if so what do i need :p
Expensive? Where are you shopping, man? I just got a HUGE piece of Hornwort for $2. The crypts I bought have grown huge, and they were only $3 each. Java ferns are dirt cheap and very very easy to grow. In about a month, you can have daughter plants ready to be moved off of the leaves of your main plant. The only thing you need to make a plant is... well.. the plant... and light, and CO2.

Lol, I clicked on this topic thinking it was some person trying to create their own LIVE plants.... Where has my mind gone today!!!
Anyways.... no, I don't think you can.... but you can try plastic or live!

I read about someone cutting a green garbage bag into the shape of a plant. They said it looked surprisingly natural as the water flowed around it. :dunno:

Does anyone know if silk or plastic plants from like the craft stores are sfe for fish? Do they have toxins on them that aquarium fake plants dont? And should I boil them tio get rid of anything on it?

Man.... Around here aquarium plants are EXPENSIVE! For like 10 plants it was like $40 bucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I heard someone maybe freshmike, or i forgot. But it was someone who really knows alot about fish, but they said that they got all thier plants on discount from michels?

Yeah I'm the person at michaels that makes all my own plants and they are super cheep and easy as heck to make.

Right now summer plants are on sale clearing off for about a buck a piece canadian (most likely 50 cents if your in the usa). Fistly I would recomind buying only plastic plants and only when they are on sale. you should be able to make at least 2 plants from one stem or if you buy a bush then you get about 7-8 plants from it. To hold you plants in the grown use plastic milk container caps from 4 litter or 1 gal jugs you can also you though black film holder things and fish food caps. Cut off the steps to apporperate sizes and make hole in your holder using a nail and a hammer. Wash your plastic plants in simply tap water and cut them down to apporperate sizes then you simply sticks the stem through to the other side only let them stick out on the bottom side about a cm or 1/3 of an inch (crazy american conversations that I don't know). Flood the underside with type one silcon and if you have any metal showing from the where you cut from the orginal steam througha bit of silcon on it so it doesn't rust. Let it sit for at least four days (at the very most three) I know I'm super over cautious about these things.

all of the plants in this tank are fake
if you can't be bothered doing all that pm and I can easily make you some as I usually make them for the LFS around here :)

i always wanted to take yarn and them plastic mesh things you use for crow-shay(sp? lol) and string it threw that then weigh it down on the bottom of my tank, it may look gay but it was for fry... i NEVER did it though, itd prolly work but i aint had a change to try it yet

well ive done it and it looks great, no problems! :) It cost me to build about 10 plants for the price of 2! Good job!
