So I picked up a 2.5 gallon Betta tank cheap and decided to get another Betta. His name is Miles.

Anyhow I made this little nano filter for his tank using a small glass bottle, a sponge, some pebbles, an air pump, part of my siphon and an airline. So far Miles isn't bothered by it and actually hangs out by the bubbles.

Here's a couple of quick video clips of it in use. What do you folks think? Is this actually working as a filter? Is it helping to keep the water clean? If so how often should I clean out the sponge?

With something like that it will be trial and error. Depending on how much you feed it may need cleaned any were from every 2 weeks to a month. You should notice a difference in color or bubble flow that may give you some idea.

Hi

Check this out. While that ornament mught be a bit big for your tank you can find lots of smaller ones.

Ok so what you're saying is this crude filter will work? I wasn't sure.
I do like that DIY filter made from an ornament though. :)

My reasons for making it were it is small and made from things i had sitting round the house. The small bottle was from the dollar store.
