I was just reading online about DIY LR, not something that i had heard of before so i thought i would ask for peoples views on this stuff, have you tried making it yourself and used it in your tank or do you feel like it's not good enough or too risky and you wouldn't touch it with a barge pole, do you think it's a good idea ecologically........ just interested in peoples views

Lol.

Do you remember the story a few years back about 2 youths that done it.
They dipped them in petrol and lit them........the heat reacted with the mercury vapour inside the tubes and they spent days in hospital having tiny shards of glass removed from their faces and hands and both suffered burns also.

They both looked like the emperor when they came out! Lol

Have heard of the man made stuff but it would take months and months to seed and then cure. In that time you could save up enough money to buy a tons worth of cured LR.

You could always buy 'dead' live rock and setup a small curing tank along with cured live rock and leave it for a few months. You would have to drop a prawn in tho regularly to keep the organisms going.

Can't beat the real thing IMO. From the ocean!

not worth the effort imo when you can get and cure reef bones for £5 a kilo. You can scape the reef bones dry and then cure them! ive seen DIY LR work and look really good and some looks awful and crumbles after a bit.
