Hello Guys/Gals

Would like your thoughts on using media
Found around the house? I run a 125 litre
Juwel Rekord freshwarer tank. I use both internal and
A external fluval 305.
Please would you give me and thoughts or
Ideas to what DIY media I could use to fill
Up the 3 compartments as original media
Can be a touch expensive

Thanks

Gravel works pretty well and is cheap.

Not sure what you could use from around the house though!

Thanks for replying

I read on forums that people use
Pot scrubbers and Lava rock? Would
These be ok to use?

I would be careful about using 'DIY' media in an external filter, my main worry being that it might clogg up and restrict the flow too much.

Ah! Pot scrubbers do work (I'd forgotten all about those  )
Just make sure you don't get ones that are metallic or have soap impregnated in them.

You need this kind;

They won't clog any more quickly than normal media.

Thank you
Will give it a go!!

I have a few HOB's on my tanks...... I use the "Duck" brand Polyurethane Foam A/C Filters...... $2 at Wally world lasts me for EVER!!! Just cut to size and I kind of "sew" it around the plastc that holds the original media from the filter with some 2 lb fishing line, then stick some more inside it........
